Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve (La Reserva Bosque Nuboso Santa Elena)
The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is a hidden gem in the Monteverde region. While both Santa Elena and Monteverde Forest share some similarities, they are different. It’s home to all kinds of wildlife and has amazing hiking trails where you can take in the beauty of the cloud forest at your own pace.
The Formation of Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve
The reserve was created in 1992 to protect the cloud forest and all the plants and animals that call it home. The forest sits about 1,500 meters above sea level, giving it that cool, misty vibe you’ll experience when you visit. Over the years, it has become a top place for nature lovers to see some of Costa Rica’s unique species.
